Cancer is one of the most dreaded words that exist.  Nothing good is associated with cancer.  It strikes the young and old and shows no mercy.  It is a long, hard battle that we wouldn't dare wish upon even our worst enemies.

Most everyone has some experience with cancer.  We have a family member or friend that has fought cancer.  Some people choose to take the route of chemo and medication while others choose more natural routes of treatment.

I recently received the opportunity to read and review the book Cancer 100 Things To Do Besides Chemo.  I must say that this book was not what I was expecting.  From the title alone, I expected this book to go into detail with natural ways to battle cancer.  I assumed it would discuss foods that have been proven to fight cancer cells, herbs that boost the body's immune response..ways that medicine men of the past fought disease.

I was disappointed to find that this book was basically a list of steps to reduce stress in one's life.  I understand that cancer is a very stressful time and reducing stress should be a high priority because it is proven that increased stress can cause illness.  I believe that the reason for my disappointment was because of my assumptions from the title.  It reminds me of the old saying "you can't judge a book by it's cover".  While the cover leads one to the assumption that this book includes alternative treatments to chemo, in my opinion, it contains steps to finding inner peace with your diagnosis.  While I would not personally forego medical treatment and rely solely on the steps in this book for treatment, I believe that the information contained in this book would be a helpful for some people as far as coming to terms with their diagnosis and coping with their situation.  As I have said in the past, I am far from a "book critic".  I simply give my opinion of the books I read.
